As far as art stores go... I love this place and it's Bay Area born. They just about everything you need, unique items for artists, and friendly staff who are very helpful. I can't wait to go back.

Really great art store in Oakland. I don’t live nearby but happened to be in the area for work, and wanted to look at some papers for bookend sheets. They’ve got parking in the back, but I didn’t realize this until I had already parked on the street out front. Luckily I had found a meter that was already paid for! Very bright and large art store that looks to have anything you would need for an art project! I was greeted by an employee as soon as I walked in the door and pointed in the direction of what I was looking for. Like I mentioned, I needed high quality papers for possible bookend sheets, and boy did they have a selection! Attached are some pictures I took. I didn’t buy any because I was just scoping, but I’ll certainly be back when I decide on a color scheme.

This is an art supply stronghold of the Bay Area. If you were lucky enough to visit the old location on Market Street in SF, you might be surprised by the more limited selection at this much smaller Oakland storefront. But they still stock the best essentials and incredible papers you can't find elsewhere. Well worth the trip.

This is truly my happy place!! Everything from fountain pens to painting products, they have all your art and crafts needs. Best part are the people that are not just helpful, but truly ensure your having the best experience. I had a bit of a shipping snafu (totally my fault) and the team there were extremely friendly when helping me figure it out. I absolutely appreciate this team!! 😁

I've been to a lot of art stores in Sacramento, Davis and the bay area "NONE" like FLAX!... they have the most amazing selection of art supplies with unbelievable prices! I found exactly what I was looking for, and the staff was very polite, friendly and helpful. I will 100% recommend them for all of your art supplies needs.

They have almost everything you need when it comes to art supplies. The staff is helpful and polite. I really like this place and will be back for more. The only thing I would recommend is for better lighting. It seemed quite dim in certain sections. It was a rainy and cloudy day, so they might have better lighting with the sun out. Either way, some strategic lighting could really help.

This review is for Jane at the fine pen desk. They are SO helpful and knowledgeable. I’ve ended up buying several pens from them and anytime there’s a problem I can always visit and they offer plenty of help troubleshooting. It’s so rare to find actual expertise these days and Jane is a standout!

Oh how I love a good art store, and this most certainly is one. Possibilities multiply when concept is confronted with a host of potential paths to reality...and this place hosts all the tools a maker could desire.

What a cute (but HUGE) store with super friendly and knowledgeable staff (and a great selection of things!) will definitely go back. I hope they keep having those weekend classes

Getting my online order for free pickup was so easy and fast! They have so many beautiful papers and great gift wrap! Incredible selection of pens! Their fine pen department is second to none!! Especially loved the service and advice I received from Jane Andreasen, their Fine Pen Manager. She is exceptional!
